HOUSE SMD-MR

House SMD-MR is designed with the intention of maximizing the sense of spaciousness and connection to the surrounding environment, despite the constraints of its relatively small, corner plot. Functionally, the living spaces are distinctly segmented by height—the ground floor is closely linked to the yard, integrating the living area along with utility and storage rooms, while the second floor is entirely dedicated to the private quarters of the residents, housing four bedrooms. To ensure the necessary living space on the upper level, a solid cantilever extends from the northwestern part of the house, creating a covered parking area beneath it without the need for a garage.

The contrasting material identity of the floors aligns with their functional differences while also emphasizing the building’s specific relationship with its surroundings. The ground floor interacts with the greenery of the yard and the varied textures of brick and landscaped fences through large glass openings, alternating with exposed concrete panels that have a subtle reflective quality. The second floor visually levitates above the ground floor and fences, with a brick façade that varies in density and arrangement. This not only reflects the intimate nature of this part of the home, adding warmth through the ceramic texture, but also selectively conceals or opens the interior spaces to the outside world, offering both privacy and connection.
